About Edinburgh and the University of Edinburgh

The School of Engineering of the University of Edinburgh is one of the largest, most innovative and highly-ranked Schools in the University. In the most recent Research Excellence Framework (REF) review, the School was ranked No. 1 in UK Engineering, having achieved the highest Research Power of any UK engineering submission to any REF panel.

Edinburgh is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a vibrant city with many inspiring events throughout the year. In August, Edinburgh hosts the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Last year the Edinburgh Fringe Festival attracted 2.7 million people, more than five times the number of residents in the city. These major international cultural events, together with Edinburgh's overall attractiveness as a tourist destination, can make it difficult to find accommodation if not booked well in advance.

Getting to Edinburgh

Edinburgh has only one airport, with links to every major UK airport, as well as a number of International airports. It is one of the busiest airports in the UK and the busiest in Scotland. There is a 24 hour bus service (Airlink 100 & 300) and a tram that can take you to the city centre in less than 30 minutes, or you can hire a taxi. More information can be found within the Edinburgh airport travel page.
